Check your antifreeze.
Make sure you check your car’s coolant level regularly and if required, top-off with the correct type of antifreeze. Your ASE certified mechanic at Tilly Mill Goodyear Auto Center can also check and make sure that you have the proper protection.
Take a look at your battery.
If you have an older battery get it checked and replaced if necessary. Battery failure is the most common cause of winter breakdowns, so make sure yours in good condition.
Check your lights.
On dark winter nights, it is important that you can see clearly and that your car can be seen. Make sure all your headlights and indicators are working properly. Don’t forget to inspect your emergency flashers.
Examine your tires.
You should have at least 3mm of tread on your tires for winter driving. It’s also vital that you check the tire pressure regularly. Read more.
Check your windshield.
Making sure your windshield is clean will prevent glare at any time of the year. This is also a good time to check your wiper blades and make sure they are in good condition. Also, make sure you check for any cracks in you windshield, as during cold weather these can get worse and ultimately lead to a broken windshield.
Top off screen wash.
Because of the salt that is used to keep roads from freezing; there’s a good chance your windshield will need constant cleaning on long journeys. Make sure your reservoir is topped off regularly with a good quality windshield cleaner.
Keep an eye on your locks.
To stop doors from freezing shut, use a thin coat of polish or Vaseline on the weather stripping.
